India Edge England in Run-Fest to Reach T20 World Cup 2026 Final

India advanced to the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup after a dramatic seven run victory over England in the second semi final at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night. A high scoring contest saw India post a massive total of 253 before England responded strongly but finished on 246 for 7 after 20 overs.

The result sends India into their second consecutive T20 World Cup final where they will face New Zealand.

Samson Leads India’s Batting Charge

After being asked to bat first India produced a dominant batting display on a flat Wankhede surface. Sanju Samson led the charge with a powerful 89 from 42 balls. His innings included eight fours and seven sixes and laid the foundation for a formidable total.

The Powerplay was controlled by India despite the early dismissal of Abhishek Sharma. Samson capitalised on fielding restrictions and attacked England’s pace attack with authority.

Support was provided throughout the innings. Ishan Kishan scored a quick 39 from 18 balls while Shivam Dube added 43 from 25 deliveries. Late acceleration came from Hardik Pandya who struck boundaries in the final overs to push the total beyond 250.

England bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate. Will Jacks and Adil Rashid took two wickets each while Jofra Archer claimed one wicket.

India finished with 253 for 7 after 20 overs.

Bethell Century Keeps England in the Chase

England’s chase began with early setbacks. Phil Salt and Harry Brook were dismissed in the Powerplay which left England under pressure.

The chase was revived by an exceptional innings from Jacob Bethell. The young batter played one of the finest innings of the tournament with a brilliant 105 from 48 balls. His innings included eight boundaries and seven sixes.

Bethell formed an important partnership with Will Jacks who scored 35 from 20 balls. The pair added 77 runs for the fifth wicket and kept England within striking distance of the massive target.

Despite the momentum England still required 45 runs from the final three overs.

Bumrah and Pandya Deliver at the Death

India regained control during the closing stages of the match. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a crucial 17th over that conceded only six runs and slowed England’s progress.

The penultimate over from Hardik Pandya proved decisive. Only nine runs were allowed and Sam Curran was dismissed which increased the pressure on England.

England required 30 runs from the final over bowled by Shivam Dube. Bethell was run out while attempting a second run on the first delivery. Jofra Archer struck three consecutive sixes but the target remained out of reach.

England finished on 246 for 7 and India secured victory by seven runs.

Final Set in Ahmedabad

The victory confirms India’s place in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The title match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

India will face New Zealand in the championship match. The hosts will aim to defend their T20 World Cup crown while New Zealand seek their first title in the format.
